James Romey is a Principal at Areté Partners with nearly two decades of experience leading restructuring and investment teams. He is a recognized expert in turnarounds, financial restructurings, and large-scale transformation initiatives. James brings a broad range of financial services capabilities, including interim management, business planning, cash management, and solvency analysis. He has delivered fiduciary and advisory services across diverse sectors, including financial services, investment management, real estate, mitigation & restoration, quick service restaurants, and manufacturing, helping organizations navigate complex challenges and unlock value.
Prior to joining Areté, Mr. Romey held multiple interim management and advisory roles, where he led strategic planning efforts, implemented best practices, advised on complex transactions, and oversaw asset monetization and liquidity initiatives. Mr. Romey developed his turnaround & restructuring focus at Development Specialists, Inc., where he served as advisor to debtors on both in- and out-of-court restructurings.
Mr. Romey began his finance career in portfolio management and trading with Franklin Templeton Investments where he focused on the fixed income and alternative asset markets — including structured products, securitized products, REITs, and private equity investments — for a group managing over $30 billion in assets under management.
He earned his Bachelor of Science from Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California where he was a class senator and member of the D1 men’s basketball team.
